Age of Sigmar one-day event report: Barleylands Brawl

Image
Here’s a quick blog on how I got on at Barleylands Brawl, a one-day Age of Sigmar event I went to a couple of weeks ago. Normally I cover Age of Sigmar events on my podcast (Three and Two: A Matched Play Age of Sigmar podcast), but my fellow podcast hosts and I have been to more events in January than we’re going to be able to fit into a pod, so I’m going to cover this one here instead. Barleylands Brawl is a recurring one-day event held at the Offworld Outpost store in Essex. It’s further away from me than I’d normally go for a one-dayer (I had to leave my house at about 6:15am to get there for a 9am start), but it’s run by some of my friends and I’ve never managed to make it to one before, so I wanted to make the effort. After a trek across London I made it there in decent time. The event is held in a function room above the store. It had natural light and a reasonable amount of space, excellent toilets, and even a little kitchen space, so 10/10 for facilities. I was runn...

2025 wrap-up and 2026 hobby goals

Image
2025 hobby goals review It's time to look back at my 2025 hobby goals and see how many of them I forgot about. Get my narrative Seraphon army to 2000 points I'm calling this one done. I'm not sure I technically made 2000 points, but I painted a bunch of new Seraphon and took them to the Shadowcon narrative event and had a lot of fun with them. I'm really pleased with how they came out, and my bastiladon is my favourite mini I painted in 2025. At some point I'd like to paint more and make it into a viable competitive army, but that's not going to be my main AoS hobby focus for 2026. My bastiladon Play some games with Kruleboyz I haven't done this. Looking back at my hobby goal post, I said I was planning to play some games with Kruleboyz and with Slaves to Darkness and see which I enjoyed most, and I'm pretty sure I got as far as the Slaves to Darkness bit, decided I was keen to play them more, and never did the Kruleboyz bit.I think this is probably the ...

Why I'm really into Underworlds right now

Image
For most of this year I’ve been pretty focused on Age of Sigmar as my main hobby enthusiasm (not that you would know it from reading my blog, but check out 'Three and Two: A matched play Age of Sigmar podcast' to hear my AoS ramblings). But recently the release of the Spitewood expansion for Warhammer Underworlds has got me really hyped for Underworlds again. I’ve never not enjoyed Underworlds, and I’ve been playing it once a week consistently pretty much since it was released, but in the run-up to Spitewood it felt like the meta had got a little stale. So I want to talk about what’s changed for me since the Spitewood release, and what I’m enjoying about the game now. The Spitewood warbands are awesome Spitewood comes with two new warbands: the Blood of the Bull (a Helsmiths of Hashut warband for Underworlds to match the recent Age of Sigmar army release), and Kurnoth’s Heralds, a warband of three Kurnothi (essentially elf centaurs, which don’t really exist outside Underw...

Warhammer Underworlds tournament report - April 2025

Image
Yesterday I went to a 31 player Underworlds tournament in Redhill run by the Agents of Sigmar, so it’s time for another event recap blog. I’m not going to get into the detail of my games as much as I usually do in these blogs, because I didn’t make any notes on my games during the day. But I’ll talk a bit about how I’m finding Underworlds at the moment, and briefly cover how I got on at the event. Tournament prep Since the Grand Clash at Warhammer World in February, I’ve been struggling a bit to figure out what warband and deck I want to play. I was very happy with how I did at the grand clash with the Emberstone Sentinels/Countdown to Cataclysm deck pairing, but was also a bit bored of playing it as I’d barely played anything else in the new edition, so I wanted to try something different. I tried out a few things, but nothing really stuck. I experimented a bit with Hexbane’s Hunters with the new Edge of the Knife deck (which is based on fighters being ‘tempered’: either h...

Warhammer Underworlds Grand Clash report - February 2025

Image
Yesterday I went to the first UK based Underworlds Grand Clash of the new edition, at Warhammer World. There were 124 players which was fantastic to see, a significant increase on the last few clashes of the old edition. I’m going to run through my games as usual in these event reports, and then briefly cover some stats from the clash at the end. The main competitive format for the new edition is Nemesis, where you build a deck by combining any two of the six decks currently available (soon to be seven). You can then use that deck with any of the warbands allowed in matched play. I chose to take Cyreni’s Razors, an Idoneth Deepkin warband consisting of three aelves and a squid. They’re the warband I’ve played most of my second edition games with, I think they have solid stats and I like that they allow quite a flexible playstyle. The four fighters all have four health and hit for two damage, so they’re reasonable interchangeable in terms of how you use them, and it’s not a big deal i...

2025 hobby goals

Image
Following on from my 2024 wrap-up blog , here’s a quick post on my 2025 hobby goals. Get my narrative Seraphon army to 2000 points. This one is carried over from 2024 when I painted a grand total of zero Seraphon. It will hopefully be my main hobby project for the year, and I want to get stuck into it from late January once I’ve finished off a few bits I need to do to get my Kruleboyz on the table. I have around 1000 points painted, so it shouldn't be too difficult to add another 1000 points, and I love the Seraphon model range so I'm excited to paint more of them. Play some games with Kruleboyz My excitement for getting some matched play games in with Kruleboyz has been dampened slightly by my getting a vaguely competitive army painted up coinciding with the new Orruk Warclans battletome bringing with it some significant nerfs, but I still want to try out the army and get some games in. I’ve kept this goal intentionally vague so I’m not committing to running them at an e...
