2024 wrap-up

Image
It’s time for the obligatory end of year blog when I look back at the hobby goals I set myself at the start of 2024 , and think ‘oh gosh, I did mean to do that, didn’t I.’ Finish painting a useable 2000 point Kruleboyz army I think I can just about say I did this one. I started the year with around 1500 points of Kruleboyz and I did go back and paint some more bits to take it over 2000 points, but then AoS 4 came along and I was suddenly woefully short of Gutrippaz. I then forgot all about Kruleboyz for a while as I was focused on my OBR army, but there are twenty Gutrippaz on my painting table at the time of writing this, and I’m planning to start using the army in matched play in early 2025. Paint a Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game warband and play a few games with them This one I definitely did, no generous accounting needed. I painted a bunch of dwarves for the Army of Thror, and played some games with them. I enjoyed the system a lot and would have liked to have played m...

Summer events wrap-up

Image
Hey folks. I've been to a whole bunch of events since I last got round to blogging, so this month's blog is going to be a wrap-up of all of them.  A Crown of Salt and Shadows - AoS28 narrative event I did a full blog on this one already, which you can find here . It was a blast! I had a great time and would love to go to other similar events in future. As well as playing in the event I also had a lot of fun practicing my mini photography skills, I used my camera's macro lens and tried to get some atmospheric shots with very low depth of field, which was a good challenge. War in the Mortal Realms AoS narrative event This was a 2000 point AoS event run by Bad Moon Cafe back in June. I took my Living City army, which I painted back during lockdown but had never taken to an event before because it is terrible. But I figured a narrative event was a good opportunity to get it on the table. I'm still not sure how I feel about this one, it was great to see Bad Moon try to do ...

Event write-up: A Crown of Salt and Shadow

Last weekend I went to an AoS-28 narrative event run for the Rollmodels community, A Crown of Salt and Shadow. I had a blast, so I'm going to run through what I got up to and talk a bit about what made it a good event. The setting The event was set in Shyish, on the Isles of Munsalvesch. Queen Roswitha, the ruler of the Isles, was dying after a reign that had lasted for as long as anyone could remember. Various factions stood to profit or fall by her death, including merchant houses, the folk of the isles, the forces of law and order, and the long dead, possible mythical king of the pale salt mist. 'In a lost corner of the Dwindlesea, the Isles of Munsalvesch rise above the waves. Clinging to the rocks, the flotsam and the bones of those who came before, folk have made lives here for generations.' Essentially it was a small, fairly self-contained part of Shyish where events could play out without needing to worry about the bigger picture of AoS, though there was lots of sco...

Narrative event plans

I have four AoS or AoS-adjacent events coming up over the next two months and they're all narrative events, so for May's blog (which was at least half written in May, we're catching up), I thought I'd do a forward look at what my hopes and dreams for these events are. Event 1 - A Crown of Salt and Shadow What is it?  An AoS 28 event with a custom ruleset loosely based on converting the Necromunda rules into the AoS world. Games will be played with small warbands, and it will have a very heavy narrative focus What am I taking? I've built a warband specifically for this event, they're mostly kitbashed from the Corvus Cabal Warcry warband with a couple of other kits thrown in for numbers and variety. I did a fairly quick slap chop paint job on them, but I'm quite pleased with how they've come out. What's the narrative? The lore for the event is based around a group of small islands, so the warband concept is that they're a gang of beach scavengers...
