2023 wrap-up

Image
It’s time to look back at my year in the hobby and reflect on what I did and didn’t do. The TLDR version is: I went to a whole bunch of events, I painted a fair bit but not as much as last year, and I did about 50% of the things I started the year saying I was going to do. How did I do against my hobby goals for 2023? I didn’t write a blog about my hobby goals for 2023, but a search of the Discord archives revealed that I set myself the following hobby goals: -           Finish the Blood Kraken Reavers Done. I finished off this army, and took it to two events: one competitive and one narrative. It’s been a few months since I last did anything with them, so writing this blog was a nice prompt to take a look at them and remind myself how happy I am with them. I think they’re my best painted finished army, and I’m really happy with how the narrative elements and conversions worked out. I’d like to play more with them, so one project I’m ...

Summer events wrap-up

Hey folks. I've been to a whole bunch of events since I last got round to blogging, so this month's blog is going to be a wrap-up of all of them.  A Crown of Salt and Shadows - AoS28 narrative event I did a full blog on this one already, which you can find here . It was a blast! I had a great time and would love to go to other similar events in future. As well as playing in the event I also had a lot of fun practicing my mini photography skills, I used my camera's macro lens and tried to get some atmospheric shots with very low depth of field, which was a good challenge. War in the Mortal Realms AoS narrative event This was a 2000 point AoS event run by Bad Moon Cafe back in June. I took my Living City army, which I painted back during lockdown but had never taken to an event before because it is terrible. But I figured a narrative event was a good opportunity to get it on the table. I'm still not sure how I feel about this one, it was great to see Bad Moon try to do ...

Narrative event plans

I have four AoS or AoS-adjacent events coming up over the next two months and they're all narrative events, so for May's blog (which was at least half written in May, we're catching up), I thought I'd do a forward look at what my hopes and dreams for these events are. Event 1 - A Crown of Salt and Shadow What is it?  An AoS 28 event with a custom ruleset loosely based on converting the Necromunda rules into the AoS world. Games will be played with small warbands, and it will have a very heavy narrative focus What am I taking? I've built a warband specifically for this event, they're mostly kitbashed from the Corvus Cabal Warcry warband with a couple of other kits thrown in for numbers and variety. I did a fairly quick slap chop paint job on them, but I'm quite pleased with how they've come out. What's the narrative? The lore for the event is based around a group of small islands, so the warband concept is that they're a gang of beach scavengers...

The Blood Kraken Reavers

It's been a while, but one of my hobby resolutions for 2023 is to get back into regular blogging, so here goes! Catching up Since I last updated this blog about 18 months ago, I've: finished my Sons of Behemat army finished my Ossiarch Bonereaper army painted a Slaves to Darkness army (see below for more details!) painted a decent chunk of a Kruleboyz army started a podcast. Check out the latest episode at  https://tinyplasticpeople.com/podcast/three-and-two-episode-8-bbb/ I'm going to skip over most of this, and focus on the hobby I'm most excited about right now, which is my new Slaves to Darkness army, the Blood Kraken Reavers. Concept The idea behind my Slaves to Darkness force is that they used be on the side of Sigmar, fighting for the city of Anvilguard. They were away from the city when it fell to Morathi and became Har Kuron, but rather than accepting that they joined the forces of the resistance, hoping to take back the city. They weren't strong enough to ...
