Event report: Warhammer Fest Underworlds clash

Image
I'm writing April's catch-up blog only one day into not-April, maybe May's blog will actually get written in May, who knows. Anyway, in this blog I'm going to do a write up of the one day Warhammer Underworlds clash at Warhammer Fest.  It was a Rivals clash, and I think the first Rivals tournament I've played in. For people not familiar with Underworlds, Rivals is a game mode with no deck building element where you use decks straight out the box: you can either use your faction's deck that they come with, or one of the pre-built Rivals decks that any warband can use. Rivals is the most accessible game mode, so my guess is that Games Workshop made this a Rivals clash to encourage less experienced players to get involved. I enjoy playing Rivals just as much as I enjoy the other more complex game modes, so this was fine with me. Before I get into my warband and the games I played, a few thoughts on the event format and Warhammer Fest as a whole: As many people on ...

The road to Blackout/AoS army stocktake

Image
I was struggling for a topic for this month's blog (technically last month's as I'm catching up for March), so I figured I'd do a quick stocktake of how I'm feeling about my AoS armies, and start thinking about what I want to take to Blackout in August, which is probably going to be my next competitive tournament.  What should I run at Blackout? 1. Fyreslayers.  My first army. I have over 3000 points of them, and probably have the models I'd need to make a pretty competitive list, but they're easily the worse painted of my armies and that puts me off playing with them. At some point I'll probably get round to repainting them, but for the moment they're going to carry on sitting in my attic. I do have one unpainted magmadroth, and I'd like to paint that up sometime this year as a fun painting project. Blackout contender: no 2. Tempest's Eye My Tempest's Eye army consists largely of old Empire models and as such is almost certainly destined...

The Blood Kraken Reavers

Image
It's been a while, but one of my hobby resolutions for 2023 is to get back into regular blogging, so here goes! Catching up Since I last updated this blog about 18 months ago, I've: finished my Sons of Behemat army finished my Ossiarch Bonereaper army painted a Slaves to Darkness army (see below for more details!) painted a decent chunk of a Kruleboyz army started a podcast. Check out the latest episode at  https://tinyplasticpeople.com/podcast/three-and-two-episode-8-bbb/ I'm going to skip over most of this, and focus on the hobby I'm most excited about right now, which is my new Slaves to Darkness army, the Blood Kraken Reavers. Concept The idea behind my Slaves to Darkness force is that they used be on the side of Sigmar, fighting for the city of Anvilguard. They were away from the city when it fell to Morathi and became Har Kuron, but rather than accepting that they joined the forces of the resistance, hoping to take back the city. They weren't strong enough to ...
