2025 hobby goals

Following on from my 2024 wrap-up blog, here’s a quick post on my 2025 hobby goals.

  • Get my narrative Seraphon army to 2000 points.

This one is carried over from 2024 when I painted a grand total of zero Seraphon. It will hopefully be my main hobby project for the year, and I want to get stuck into it from late January once I’ve finished off a few bits I need to do to get my Kruleboyz on the table. I have around 1000 points painted, so it shouldn't be too difficult to add another 1000 points, and I love the Seraphon model range so I'm excited to paint more of them.

  • Play some games with Kruleboyz

My excitement for getting some matched play games in with Kruleboyz has been dampened slightly by my getting a vaguely competitive army painted up coinciding with the new Orruk Warclans battletome bringing with it some significant nerfs, but I still want to try out the army and get some games in. I’ve kept this goal intentionally vague so I’m not committing to running them at an event, my plan for early 2025 is to play some games with Kruleboyz and some games with my long neglected Slaves to Darkness and see which I have most fun with before deciding what to run at the next few tournaments I go to.

These Gutrippaz were my first painted models of 2025

  • Get myself to a place where I feel happier about doing badly at tournaments

Last year one of my hobby goals was not to come last at Brotherhood (the AoS team tournament I went to in Jan 24 and am about to go to again in Jan 25). This year I’m changing it to being ok with the possibility of coming last at Brotherhood: we have a less experienced team than last year and we’ve not really done any prep, so I’m trying to go into the tournament with a focus on making sure that our team have a fun time and our opponents have a fun time, and not worrying too much about where we finish. Similarly, I’d like to be more ok with doing badly at competitive singles events. I am pretty good at being a good loser at the moment and not being obviously salty (at least I think/hope I am), but I can definitely get inwardly a bit down when I feel like I’ve played badly, and I don’t hugely like that about myself, so I want to try to find a better mindset to approach events with where my enjoyment of the event is less dependent on how well I've done.

  • Be competitive at new Underworlds

The above said, I do also want to try to win things! My early experience of the new edition of Underworlds was that I felt like I went from being quite good at the old edition to having no clue what I was doing with the new edition, so I’d like to get back to a place where I’m going to Underworlds tournaments feeling like I’m in with a shot. I’ll likely only make it to a few tournaments so I’m not going to set myself a goal of winning one, but I’d like to place well at a tournament, and generally feel like I have my head round the meta and know what I’m doing.

  • Play some Saga and MESBG.

I didn’t play any Saga in 2024, and my MESBG games were all in the first half of the year. I’d like to get some more games in of both in 2025, and depending on how that goes I’d quite like to go to an MESBG event at some point.

I’m going to leave it at five goals this year and not tie myself into too much, particularly for painting goals. I have a few potential new army projects I’m considering, but I don’t know which one I’ll end up going for yet so I don’t want to lock anything in this early.
